Adversity is like manure...

It stinks, but it makes you grow.

Creation and Logic

When driving along a road, you observe that everyone is following those laws.  Oddly enough, no one has personally met the person who put those laws in place.  However everyone obeys them because they know them and know there must be a power and intelligence behind them.  Same with creation.  There are countless laws that are established in the universe.  Logic demands that there must be a power and intelligence behind them.

THE 6 TRUTHS OF LIFE

1. You cannot touch all your teeth with your tongue.
2. All idiots, after reading the first truth try it.
3. The first truth is a lie.
4. You're smiling now because you're an idiot.
5. You soon will forward this to another idiot.
6. There's still a stupid smile on your face.

Redemption - The Ransom and Animal Sacrifices

How does the ransom relate to credit cards?  The debt incurred by sin is much like the debt on a credit card. The ancient israelites used animal sacrifices, but they were not sufficient to completely atone for sin.  It was much like paying the interest on credit card debt.  The debt remianed, though it satisfied the creditor temporarily.  A payment against the principle was made with the ransom.  It could be applied against the principle and redeem mankind from it's large debt.

The Importance of Context

In 1960, a W.A. Darlington wrote a review for a play on Broadway in the London Daily Telegraph.  The critic wrote, "If triviality is what you happen to be wanting, by all means go and see this play."  The next week he was astounded to see the Strand Theater quoting him, urging the public to go see this movie by quoting his phrase, "By all means, go and see this play."

How Penguins Get Smart

Penguins too stupid to wait, get eaten, hence the smarter ones survive to reproduce.  The killer whale gets lunch, we get the picture.  Everybody wins!

Self Control - The Emperor Penguin

Penguins spend months guarding their young in the Antarctic.  They make a long journey to the ocean and upon reaching it are extremely weak and hungry.  The problem is that killer whales lurk below.  They carefully walk to the edge and wait.  They look carefully at the water and wait until there are no threats beneath.  Even though very hungry, self control is vital for survival, not only of themselves, but their mate and baby far away.  Those without self-control plunge into the water.  Some make it, but some don't.  Is it worth the risk to lose self control for a personal desire?

Hormones and Marriage

Heard a good illustration today relating to a woman whose hormones can change while she's pregnant or just feels out of sorts.  It's like walking on eggshells.  You never know when one is going to crack.  And when it does, "everything you say can and will be held against you".  Even a question like "How does my hair look?" can be fraught with danger.  Tread carefully.

Pages Stuck Together

When your dating, you feel like you know your girl/guy like an open book.  Then you get married and you start to find some of those pages that are stuck together.

Welcome To Original Illustrations For Public Speakers

The reason I start this blog is that I want to record the best public speaking illustrations that I hear.  I listen to numerous public speakers every week and some come up with some very original material.  I've look at all those sites that have sermon illustrations and I find that most are just copying one another and don't have much in the way of originality to offset.  Hence, as I hear them, I will share the best and most original illustrations for public speaking that I hear.
